Athletic Department Report
As we finally finish our Fall sports season, the only word I can use to explain it is a simple "WOW".
We had 4 NBC players of the year: Kelly Mayer in Girls Tennis, Alden Hill in Football, Ryan Headley in Boys Golf and Molly Flinn in Girls Soccer. An interesting fact about Ryan was that he advanced to the State Tournament for 3 consecutive seasons. Even more interesting is that Ryan Headley is the only Senior of the group so we will all get to watch Kelly, Alden and Molly compete for Marlington again next season. In team sports, Football, Girls Soccer and Boys Soccer won NBC league titles. There were also several historical Marlington sports accomplishments this season. The Boys Cross Country Team advanced to the State Cross country meet for the first time in school history. The Boys Soccer team advanced to the Regional Finals for the first time in school history before falling in double overtime to a very good Walsh Jesuit team. The Marlington Football team won a OHSAA football playoff game, and a regional championship for the first time in school history. This advanced them to the final four in the state before losing to an outstanding Akron Buchtel team. Running Back Alden Hill was named the Division 3 State offensive player of the year in Ohio and Coach Ed Miley was the Division 3 State Coach of the Year.
We have already began our Winter Sports seasons and in our first regular season game our Girls basketball team was victorious 65-30 over Streetsboro. This is going to be another fantastic year for Marlington Athletics so I hope to see you all out this winter cheering on our Dukes as we go after the All-Sports Trophy.
Go Dukes!!!!!!!!!!!!!
