MS - 6th Grade Scoliosis Screening
Starting 5/6/2024 and ending on 5/7/2024
Event Groups:
• Marlington Middle School - Middle School Events
Description:
Dear Parent/Guardian:
On Monday, May 6 and Tuesday, May 7 our school nurses will conduct a Scoliosis Screening program to identify students with signs of abnormal curvature of the spine.   It is known that two children out of every one hundred may have scoliosis.  If this condition is detected early and appropriately treated, progressive spine deformity can usually be prevented.
The procedure for screening is a simple test in which nurses examine the child’s back in the standing position and while bending forward.  All boys and girls are screened individually and apart from their peers. Students should wear loose fit clothing. If wearing a hoodie please wear a t-shirt underneath. If your child has a suspected curvature, you will be notified and asked to take your child to your family physician or an orthopedic doctor for further evaluation.  All 6th grade students will be screened. Please complete the requested information below if you do not wish to have your child screened.  Denial of screening letter and/or Parent Square email will be sent to parents at a later date.
Sincerely,
