Hello! My name is Laura Ray and I am a Title tutor at Washington Elementary. I work on Reading skills with grades K-3. I graduated from The University of Akron with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I taught 5th grade in Cincinnati for 2 years after I graduated college. I got married in June of 1990 and worked in Rossford Local Schools near Toledo for 2 years before I took several years off to be a full time, stay at home mom. When my youngest son started 2nd grade in 2003, I began working at Washington Elementary as a substitute teacher. I also worked one year as a Title tutor at the middle school before returning to Washington Elementary to work as a Title tutor there. This fall will be the start of my 10th year as a Title tutor at Washington and the start of my 22nd year working in the Marlington district!
My family and I live in Washington Township. Both of my sons attended Washington Elementary and are Marlington High School graduates, so I've been a part of the Washington Elementary family for a long time! My oldest son Jacob is the Youth and Education Manager at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, and my youngest son Mitchell teaches 6th grade Social Studies at Southeast Middle School. My husband and I have been married for 34 years! He retired from the State of Ohio Emergency Management Agency in 2020, and is now an independent consultant for FEMA. We have an Australian Shepherd/Elkhound mix dog named Gibbs. Our family grew by one this summer - my son Jacob got married and added Aly into our family! I enjoy spending time with my family and my dog, and love vacationing at the beach!
I am looking forward to working with your child. If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected] or call the Washington Elementary office at 330-823-7586 and leave me a message.
Together we will make it a great school year for your child!
